Preparing for a CT Scan

Just like any other type of testing, there are things you need to do to prepare for a CT scan. At our facility, we are great about providing detailed radiology in Queensinstructions before any of our tests, but there are certain things you need to do that are universal no matter where you are getting your CT scan. Here are some tips to help you get ready for your testing with us.

Find out what type of contrast material will be given to you – Depending on what area of the body your CT scan will be looking at, the kind of contrast material will differ. This helps the radiologist and your physician to see parts of your body that need to be magnified and is usually either ingested through a beverage or given to you by an IV. This helps you prepare for your testing, so you are not caught off guard when you arrive at your appointment.

Remove your metal – If you have any piercings, jewelry, retainers or dentures with metal in them, it is essential to remove them before your procedure. Metal can interfere with your testing and potentially throw off your CT scan’s results, so it is best to remove all of it (if possible) before your test.
